Project Synthesis

The project entitled “Improving Livelihoods of Rural Punjabi Women through development of Traditional Phulkari Craft with Design and Digital Technology”, held in 2023-24 covered 65+ villages and 100 village clusters and trained 1015 rural women/men of district Fatehgarh Sahib. The project aims at empowering women and girls in the Fatehgarh Sahib district by providing them with training, market access and other support to help them start their own business or find employment in the digital economy. Under this project, trained 582 women and girls on Phulkari Embroidery. Project highlight is to develop hands-on experience on traditional phulkari craft using e-commerce platforms for the rural women and girls at grassroot level to scale up their local businesses or find employment in the digital economy. The project focuses on how digital technology can be leveraged to enhance the traditional Phulkari craft and improve the livelihood of rural Punjabi women in the Fatehgarh Sahib district. This highlights the benefits of integrating digital tools, such as online platforms for marketing and selling, virtual training programs, and access to global markets. The synthesis would also emphasize the importance of preserving the cultural heritage of Phulkari while embracing innovation. .
